Dorothy May Voorhees was born September 24, 1919 in Waterloo, Iowa, the daughter of Harry and Margaret (Jacobs) Hackett. She married Robert Voorhees on November 13, 1943 in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Robert preceded her in death on October 3, 1983. Dorothy was a graduate of West High School in Waterloo and attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. She died Saturday, January 2, 1999 at Sterling House in Cedar Falls at 79 years of age.

Dorothy is survived by her son, Peter E. Voorhees and her daughter, Sara J. Gregory, both of Cedar Falls; her two grandchildren, Steven P. Burrell, Jr. of Cedar Falls and Stacy Jane Burrell of Minneapolis, Minnesota; a sister, Elizabeth Sias of Bonners Ferry, Idaho and a brother, Donald Hackett of Prescott, Arizona.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and three brothers, Charles Blaine Hackett, Russell Hackett and Theodore Hackett.

Memorial services were held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 6, 1999 at First United Methodist Church in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Her body was donated to the University of Iowa Medical School in Iowa City, Iowa. Memorials may be directed to Sartori Memorial Hospital Health Care Foundation and the Salvation Army.
