Richard "Dick" D. Reams, 84, of Evansdale, Iowa, and formerly from Plainfield, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, September 5, 2004 at the home of his daughter's in Evansdale.

Richard Durwood Reams was born on November 29, 1919, the son of William F. and Jennie (Johnson) Reams in Waterloo, Iowa. He graduated from East High School in Waterloo. He entered the US Army, serving during World War II, from 1942 until 1946.

On August 15, 1948, he was united in marriage to Opal M. Dix in Olathe, Kansas. He farmed from 1949 until 1972. He then went to work for the Waverly Shell Rock school system as a custodian for 10 years, retiring in March of 1982. In 1986, the couple started wintering in Arizona and became permanent residence in Arizona in 1990. The couple moved to Evansdale, Iowa in May of 2002. Dick loved to do wood working, flowering gardening, have a good home cooked meal and family gatherings.

Survivors are his wife, Opal of Evansdale; daughter, Judith (Bill) Brandenburg of Evansdale; son, Dr. Richard (Brita) Reams of New Hampton; three grandchildren, David (Pamela) Wendland, Angela and Alicia Reams; two great grandchildren, Katelyn and Austin Wendland.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Buellah and Marjorie and a brother, Donald.

Funeral services will held on Wednesday, September 8, 2004 at 10:30 am at the First Baptist Church in Plainfield, with Pastor Shawn Geer officiating. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery rural Bristow. Friends may call from 4:30 pm until 8:00 pm on Tuesday, at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly, Iowa. Memorials may be directed to the First Baptist Church of Plainfield or to Cedar Valley Hospice.
