GILBERTVILLE - John "Jack" McGee, 76, of Gilbertville, died Saturday, Feb. 4, at Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo of cancer.
He was born March 28, 1935, in Howard County, near Lourdes, son of John McGee and Anna Knipling McGee. He married Mary Josephine Prochaska on March 2, 1957, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in rural Elma.
He graduated from Cresco of Notre Dame High School in 1954. Mr McGee served in the U.S. military as a paratrooper from 1954-56. He worked at Deere & Co. in Waterloo for 30 years, retiring in 1990, and was a member of Immaculate Conception Church.
Survived by: his wife; three sons, Daniel (Patricia) of Bettendorf, Dennis (Teresa) of Oklahoma City and Richard (Veronica) of Huxley; two daughters, Debra (Russ) Backes of Raymond and Dee (Hal) Reiter of Buckingham; 18 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Rita Fleming of Stevensville, Mont., and Marge Wetherell of Rock Island, Ill.
Preceded in death by: four brothers, Donald, Raymond, Gerald and Edward; and two sisters, Marcella Mirci and Cecelia Delaney.
Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with burial in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, both in Gilbertville. Military rites will be conducted by Nugent-Demuth American Legion Post 714 of Gilbertville. Public visitation from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at White Funeral Home, Jesup, with a 4 p.m. rosary and 7 p.m. vigil. Visitation will continue for an hour before services Wednesday at the church.
Memorials: may be directed to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church or the Bosco System, both in Gilbertville.
