CEDAR FALLS - Robert E. "Bob" Crawford, 86, of Cedar Falls, died at home Sunday, Jan. 15.

He was born Jan. 14, 1926, in Waterloo, son of Edward J. and Ella Wilhelmina Nissen Crawford. He married Mardell Louise Zewiske on July 11, 1953, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Fairbank.

Mr. Crawford worked as a mechanic at John Deere Product Engineering Center, retiring after 39 years of employment.

Survived by his wife; two sons, Michael (Ann) of Cedar Falls and James (Barbara) of Marion; and five grandchildren, Andrew, Matthew, Brandon, Alix Anne and Samantha Jo.

Preceded in death by an infant daughter, Diane Marie Crawford; and his parents.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Visitation from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, where there will be a 5 p.m. rosary and a 7 p.m. vigil. Visitation also an hour before services Thursday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the church or Cedar Valley Hospice.

Bob was selected as one of the first group of men at the startup of the new Product Engineering Center that developed the New Generation Tractor in March 1955. He also was an avid bike rider, with more than 75,000 miles of "Time in the Saddle."
