Gladys B. Wood died on Thursday, October 19, 2006 at the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home in Cedar Falls.

She was born on July 15, 1907, in Waterloo, Iowa, the daughter of William and Alta (Moore) Brinker. She graduated from Waterloo East High School in 1926, and went on to receive her teaching credentials from the Iowa State Teachers College. She taught in rural schools for fifteen years.

On December 27, 1933, she was united in marriage to James A. Wood in Ames, Iowa. Together they farmed in the Mt. Vernon Township. He died on February 28, 1985.

Gladys was employed by Woolworth store in Black Hawk Village and later at College Square Mall, in Cedar Falls, Iowa, for ten years, as manager of the lunch counter. She was a member of, or involved with, a variety of clubs and associations such as Business and Professional Women, Republican Women, Farm Bureau, First Presbyterian Church, Royal Neighbors, and 4-H, as a club leader.

She is survived by her sister, Dorothy Carson of Waterloo; four nieces, Judy Davis of Maryland, Sharon (Gaylen) Frazee, of Waterloo, Eva Grace (Carroll) Bonney, of Cedar Falls, and Janet (Bruce) Besh of Cedar Falls; five nephews, William (Jessie) Brinker, Gary (Rosie) Brinker, Craig (Jeanne) Brinker, all of Waterloo, Dale (Ginger) Petersen of Iowa City, and Don (Letha) Petersen of Cedar Falls.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, James; and two brothers, William and Floyd Brinker.
