CEDAR FALLS- John Charles Hill, 68, of Cedar Falls, died October 20, 2006.

He was born on May 25, 1938 on Rainbow Drive in Cedar Falls, Iowa, son of Russell and Lucille Barr Hill, attended Cedar Heights Elementary School and graduated from Cedar Falls High School in 1956. John served his country as a Navy SeaBee after high school, supporting the development of several strategic military facilities in the South Pacific.

In January 1960 he married Claudette Ann Gossman. After returning from his military duties, John joined forces with his Grandfather and Father to expand their family Insurance, Appraisal and Real Estate businesses, ultimately owning his own building company, Hill Building Co. of Cedar Falls. An active member of the community, "Hill" as he is known is past President of the Cedar Falls-Waterloo Home Builders Association, Life Time AMVETS member, Life long Elks member and long time parishioner of St. Patrick's Catholic Church.

Survivors include: his Wife, Claudette of Cedar Falls; son John F. of Phoenix; daughter Christina (Edward) Olson of Cedar Falls; four grandchildren, Maggie and Lexie Hill, Jacob and Lauren Olson, two brothers, Larry and Steve of Cedar Falls and sister Helen Moser of Chicago.

Preceded in death by his parents.

Services: 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, October 24, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Cedar Falls, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Waterloo. Military rites will be conducted by the Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49. Public visitation: 4-7 P.M. Monday, October 23, at Richardson Funeral Home, with a 6 P.M. Scripture service.

John (PaPa) lived his life to the fullest, never a still or dull moment, he will always be remembered as a fun loving son, husband, father and sibling during his active and successful life. Papa never gave up, fighting until the very end, but lost his battle to incurable Melanoma Skin Cancer. The family requests that memorials be directed to St. Patrick's Catholic Church and School. The family wants to extend a hearty thank you to nurse Julie and all staff at the Cedar Valley Hospice for their compassion during John's final months.
