La Porte City --- William Dewey Purdy, 49, Friday at the US veterans hospital at Des Moines of hepatic failure after a long illness, born in La Porte City Sept. 11, 1898 son of William and Rose Purdy; served in World war II; was a farmer, leaves parents, four sisters, Mrs.. William Sommerfeldt, Brandon; Mrs. Roscoe Rice, Waterloo; Mrs. Carlyle Caldwell, Walker; Mrs. Louis West, La Porte City; one brother Merville, at home; funeral 2 p.m. Monday at Johannsen funeral home; burial in West View cemetery.
