WATERLOO - William J. Laughlin, 71, of Waterloo, died Tuesday, Jan. 10, at Covenant Medical Center of natural causes.

He was born March 25, 1940, in Waterloo, son of L. Loren and Cera Johanssen Laughlin. He married Vicki Woellert in 1959, and they later divorced. He married Ellen Von Ah in 1980 in Waterloo.

Mr. Laughlin graduated from Waterloo East High School in 1959 and later attended classes at the University of Northern Iowa and NIACC. He worked in various manufacturing and manufacturing supervisory positions, including Titus Manufacturing and John Deere. He later worked for Allen Hospital, leaving in 2000.

Survived by his wife; a daughter, Debra (Brian) O'Hara of League City, Texas; two sons, Shawn (Brandy) of Leavenworth, Kan., and Tim (Teresa Morales) of Waterloo; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; his mother of Waterloo; four brothers, Victor (Carol), Robert, Donald and Gene, all of Waterloo; and a sister, Dawn (Danny) McGrew of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by his father.

Services: 10 a.m. Saturday at Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Service, preceded by an hour of visitation. In accordance to his wishes his body was cremated.

Memorials may be directed to the family.

Bill is remembered as a generous man of very high integrity who loved his family, especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed crossword puzzles, reading, watching sports and woodworking, when his health would allow.
