WATERLOO - William A. "Bill" Dotzler Sr., 89, of Waverly, formerly of Waterloo, died Tuesday, Jan. 10, at Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community, Waverly.

He was born Sept. 29, 1922, in Aitkin, Minn., son of Godfrey and Mary Hoge Dotzler. He married Virginia Yourzek on Oct. 25, 1947, in Minneapolis, and they later divorced.

Mr. Dotzler graduated from high school in Aitkin and attended the University of Minnesota. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was employed as a division manager for Encyclopedia Britannica and later with the Iowa Department of Revenue until his retirement.

Survived by two sons, Bill Jr. of Waterloo and Steve (Becky) Sr. of Cedar Falls; two daughters, Joann (Michael) Apling of Janesville and Mary (Dan) Hubert of Waterloo; six grandchildren, Steve Dotzler Jr., Mikki Strelow, Philip Dotzler, Brandi Hubert, Christopher Apling and Hannah Apling; four great-grandchildren; and a brother, Godfrey "Dutch" of California.

Preceded in death by a brother, Benjamin; and four sisters, Caroline Thomas, Margaret Walz, Mary Ann Patrick and Patricia Dotzler.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Full military rites will be conducted by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with a 6:30 p.m. rosary. Visitation also an hour before services Friday at the funeral home.
