Blanche H. Rasmussen died Wednesday, June 28, 2006, at the Madrid Lutheran Home. She was born January 18, 1914, in Cedar Falls, IA, the daughter of Daniel L. and Anna Marie (Hansen) Patterson.

On February 15, 1936, she was united in marriage to Nels Christian Rasmussen in Cedar Falls. He died September 23, 1983.

She and her husband farmed in Cedar Falls for more than 45 years. They raised white turkeys and sold a great number of fresh-dressed turkeys for the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. Blanche bred, raised and showed purebred Collie dogs.

Blanche enjoyed sewing and worked as a tailor for the Silver Spur Store, Tom Klemuk Interiors., and J.C Penney Co. Drapery Dept. She subsequently started her own drapery business in her home under the name of Rose-Ridge Workroom. She also loved her apple orchard and vegetable and gladiola flower gardens and was a member of the Hudson Garden Club. Blanche was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and served as a Sunday school teacher for many years. She moved from her rural Cedar Falls home to the Madrid Lutheran Home in 1999.

Blanche is survived by her daughter, Elaine L. Rasmussen of Spring Lake, MN; son, Lowell (Kristin) Rasmussen of Glenwood, MN; five grandchildren, Colette (Will) Johnston of Stanhope, Colleen (Rich) Wrage and Lorelei Buechler, both of Boone, Jason Rasmussen of Wilmar, and Jon Rasmussen of Glenwood; and six great grandchildren, Emily and Holly Wrage, Nathan, Matthew, and Melinda Johnston, and Abbott Rasmussen.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, James Rasmussen; and sister, Martha Niemeyer
