Bertha Stangel, 86, Of Tacoma, Wash., formerly of Waterloo, died April 1 of natural causes at Sherwood Villa nursing home in Tacoma.

She was born May 22, 1904, in Bremen, Germany, daughter of Hans and Minnie Wulfkehle Borowsky. She married John Stangel on Feb. 24. 1928, in Dyersville. He died in 1972.

Survivors include a son, Ronald of Tacoma, Washington; and two grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Bernard Borowsky.

Services were April 5 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Tacoma. Burial will be at a later date in Mount Olivet Cemetery.

Mountain View Funeral Home, Tacoma, was in charge of arrangements.
