John S. Preston, 78. of 521 Carolina Ave., died Friday, July 13. at Covenant Medical Center at Kimball Avenue of complications of cancer.

He was born December. 13, 1911, in Cedar Rapids, son of James William and Janette Beck Preston. He married Margaret Dwyer Sept. 1, 1939, in Cedar Rapids.

Mr. Preston was an industrial engineer at Chamberlain Manufacturing Corp. for 50 years.

Survivors include his wife; a son, John W. of Cedar Falls; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister. Mavorette Reside.

Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Parrott and Wood Funeral Home, with burial in Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 3 to 9 p.m. Monday; the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Visitation also will be 9 a.m. until services on Tuesday.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
