WATERLOO - Gloria J. Freed, 73, of Waterloo, died Wednesday, Dec. 28, at Cedar Valley Hospice Home.

She was born May 24, 1938, in Ackley, daughter of Paul and Grace Eygabroad Schultz. She married Donald A. Freed Sr. on July 26, 1978, in Waterloo. He died Aug. 20, 1984.

Mrs. Freed graduated from Waterloo East High School in 1956, then served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict, honorably discharged in 1957. She was a caretaker for many years, retiring in 2010.

Survived by a daughter, Melodie (Robert) Asling of Waterloo; an adopted daughter, Linda Truax of Cedar Falls; two grandchildren, Troy Stewart and Ashley Asling; two great-grandchildren, Tyler Edward and Mason Edward Stewart; a brother, Keith (Diane) Schultz of Waterloo; and a sister, Beverly Wood of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by her parents.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Garden View Chapel Funeral Home, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Full military honors will be accorded by Evansdale AMVETS Post 31, Waterloo AMVETS Post 19 and the Iowa Army National Guard Honors Detail. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday and an hour before services Tuesday at the funeral home.
