CEDAR FALLS - Elaine Frances Uthe, 81, of Cedar Falls, died Tuesday, Dec. 27, at Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo.

She was born Feb. 14, 1930, in Boone, daughter of Alouise and Ottilia Leininger Uthe.

She graduated from Williams High School in 1947. She received a bachelor's degree from Marycrest College in Davenport in 1951, a master's degree from Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., in 1955, and a doctorate degree from the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis in 1966. She taught at various high schools in Iowa, East Aurora (Illinois) High School, U.S. Army Dependent Schools stationed in France, Mount Mercy College in Cedar Rapids, University of Minnesota, Michigan State University, University of Georgia and University of Kentucky, before retiring to Waterloo. Over the years she served as an officer and speaker in several educational organizations, and volunteered for various community organizations.

Survived by a sister, Patricia Lynch of Waterloo; a niece, Michelle (Tim) Oliver of Menominee Falls, Wis.; four nephews, Thomas Lynch of Warrenville, Ill., Michael (Rachel) Lynch of Oak Park, Ill., Patrick (Sandy) Lynch of South Lake, Texas, and James Lynch of Chicago; and four grandnieces, Libby, Abby, Molly and Sophie Lynch.

Preceded in death by a brother, Thomas; and brother-in-law, Earl Lynch.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Cedar Falls, with burial in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Williams. Public visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Richardson Funeral Service, with a 4 p.m. rosary and 7 p.m. vigil. Visitation will continue for an hour before services Saturday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice or the church.
