GILBERTVILLE - Arnold Joseph Frost, 92, of Gilbertville, died Tuesday, Dec. 27, at Cedar Valley Hospice Home, Waterloo.

He was born Sept. 26, 1919, on the family farm near Gilbertville in rural Black Hawk County, son of Michael Joseph and Clara Anna Reuter Frost. On June 2, 1943, he married Rosemary Margaret Schmitt at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Oelwein. She died Oct. 28, 2002.

Mr. Frost attended Immaculate Conception Catholic School and served in the Army during World World II as a surgical technician fourth grade for the 38th field hospital and was discharged in 1945. He worked in the smoke house at Rath Packing Co., Waterloo, and also farmed east of Gilbertville from 1948 to 1982. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church and was a charter member of Nugent-Demuth American Legion Post 714, both in Gilbertville.

Survived by four daughters, Alicia Frost of Waterloo, Margo (Ken Hoff) Spurrier of Casper, Wyo., Carla Boekelman of Madrid and Paula (Gene) Even of Gilbertville; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; three brothers, Eugene of Waterloo, Gerald (Rosemary) of Hiawatha and Jerome (Donna) of Readlyn; and two sisters, Theresa O'Connell of Waterloo, and Lucy Mangrich of Gilbertville.

Preceded in death b: a granddaughter; and two brothers, Ray and Andrew.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Gilbertville, with burial in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Gilbertville. Graveside military rites will be conducted by Nugent-Demuth American Legion Post 714. Visitation from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday at White Funeral Home, Jesup, where there will be a 4 p.m. Catholic Order of Foresters rosary and a 6:30 p.m. vigil service. Visitation also an hour before services Saturday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the church, the Bosco System and Cedar Valley Hospice.
