WATERLOO - Jerry A. Vaala, 69, of Waterloo, died Sunday, Dec. 18, at Allen Hospital from complications of lymphoma cancer.

He was born April 28, 1942, in New Hampton, son of Joseph and Alice Anderson Vaala. He married Charlene Bannister on March 27, 1965, in Preston, Minn.

Mr. Vaala graduated from Waterloo East High School in 1959 and had worked at Titus Manufacturing as an office representative for 14 years, then was a machinist at Viking Pump Co. for 25 years, retiring in April 2004. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.

Survived by his wife; two daughters, Terry (Joel) Osmundson of Washburn and Angie (Mike) Andrews of Waterloo; three sons, Craig (Helida) Vaala of Waterloo, Scott Vaala of Dubuque and Jeff (Michele) Shimek of Austin, Texas; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Connie (Jim) Bedard of Washburn.

Preceded in death by a brother, Harlan Anderson; and three grandsons, Jason Hendershot, and Dillon S. and Billy J. Vaala.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, with burial in Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Locke Funeral Home.
