WATERLOO -Kathleen "Kathy" Gorby, 75, of Waterloo, died at home Sunday, Dec. 4, of cancer.

She was born Nov. 22, 1936, in St. Lucas, daughter of Joseph and Johanna Baumler Franzen. She married Gene Gorby on June 1, 1959, in Vermillion, S.D. He died June 28, 2003.

Mrs. Gorby graduated from St. Luke's High School, St. Lucas, in 1954. She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. She also volunteered with her husband delivering Meals on Wheels.

Survived by five daughters, Charlotte (Tom) Jeys of Waterloo, Diane Gorby, Nichole Gorby and Kimberly Gorby, all of Waterloo, and Tamara (Luther) Hougen of Denver; a son, Gene Jr. (Shelley) of Waterloo; 18 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a brother, Eligius Franzen of St. Lucas; and five sisters, Mary (Charlie) Zook of Sioux City, Eulalia Schuler of Waterloo, Eileen (Ken) Hill of Dike, Marilyn (Dale) Bedard of Waterloo and Jane (Jim) Jones of Leon.

Preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Alvin Franzen; a sister, Dorothy Moellers; a sister-in-law, Hannah Franzen; three brothers-in-law, Clair Moellers, Lee Sweitzer and James Schuler; a nephew, David Moellers; and two nieces, Mary Kris Sweitzer and Denise Hill.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Locke Funeral Home, where there will be a 4 p.m. Catholic Daughters of the Americas rosary and a 7 p.m. vigil service. Visitation also an hour before services Friday at the church.
