LA PORTE CITY - Jay. J. Thomas, 83, of La Porte City, died Saturday, Nov. 12, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City.

He was born Sept. 10, 1928, in La Porte City, son of John and Verna Olson Thomas.

Mr. Thomas graduated from Waterloo East High School in 1946, and had served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He worked at John Deere Tractor Works, retiring in 1985.

Survived by two sisters, Charlene Thomas and Mary Jane (Robert) Gilmore, both of Des Moines.

Preceded in death by two sisters, Virginia Grafton and Marilyn Olson; and a brother, John "Max.".

Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at American Lutheran Church, with burial in West View Cemetery, both in La Porte City. Visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at La Porte City Funeral Service and for an hour before services Tuesday at the church. Graveside military rites will be conducted by the La Porte City American Legion USS San Diego Post 207 and VFW Post 3983.

Memorials may be directed to the LPC Golf Club.
