WATERLOO - Gertrude Marie Koster, 88, of Urbandale, formerly of Waterloo, died Tuesday, Nov. 8, at Mercy Hospice, Johnston, from complications of a stroke.

She was born Oct. 26, 1923, in Fairbank, daughter of Arista and Cora Metcalf Hayes. She married Richard Koster on Oct. 23, 1944, in Waterloo. He died Jan. 17, 1985.

Mrs. Koster graduated from Waterloo East High School in 1942 and was a homemaker.

Survived by four sons, Larry (Judy) of Woodbury, Minn., Tom (Mary) of Sioux City, Jim (Corey) of Waterloo and Bob (Robbi) Koster of Grantsburg, Wis.; three daughters, JoAnn (Ron) Bruns of Ellisville, Mo., Toni (Neil) Krejci of Marion and Peg (Wayne) Winkie of Urbandale; 18 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Bob and Laverne Hayes; three sisters, Mary R. Jensen, Grace (Jean) Dennis and an infant; a grandchild; and a great-grandchild.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, where there will be a rosary at 4 p.m. Visitation also an hour before services Monday at the church.

Memorials may be made to St. Mary's of Nazareth, St. Vincent DePaul Society or Mercy Hospice in Johnston.
