WATERLOO - Paul Arthur Robinson Sr., 89, of Waterloo, died at home Sunday, Nov. 6, of natural causes.

He was born Feb. 8, 1922, in Waterloo, son of Harland and Marvel Mentzer Robinson. He married Phyllis Jindrich on Oct. 5, 1951.

Mr. Robinson served in World War II with the U.S. Army's 106th Infantry Division (Golden Lions) in combat in the European theater and in the occupation of Germany. In 1946 he began his career as a firefighter with the Waterloo Fire Department, retiring in 1975 as a lieutenant. He also owned and operated Robby's Lawnmower Service from 1954 until his retirement in 1989. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and Becker Chapman Post 138 of the American Legion.

Survived by his wife; four daughters, Cathryn of Osage, Cynthia (Don) Balsanek of Cedar Rapids, Carol of Allen, Texas, and Camille (Jeff) Roe of Monroe, Wis.; four sons, Paul (Roberta) of Independence, Harlan (Karla) and Thomas (Marilyn), both of Waterloo, and Philip of Traer; 16 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by a brother, Marvin; and a sister, Evelyn Sawyer.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with burial in Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery. Funeral honors will be rendered by Waterloo Fire Rescue with military rites by Becker Chapman American Legion Post 138. Funeral escort by the Patriot Guard Riders of Iowa. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Locke Funeral Home, with a 7 p.m. rosary and vigil service.

Memorials may be directed to Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 650 Stephan Ave., Waterloo 50701 or Cedar Valley Hospice.

The family would like to extend their deepest appreciation and heartfelt thanks to the staff of Cedar Valley Hospice for their kindness and tender care and support during Paul's illness.
