EVANSDALE - Thomas S. Herman, 57, of Evansdale, died Friday, Nov. 4, at Allen Hospital, Waterloo, following a sudden illness.

He was born Dec. 27, 1953, in Oelwein, son of Albert A. and Virginia M. Stedman Herman. He married Debra M. Nosko in 1975 in Waterloo, and they later divorced.

Mr. Herman worked at John Deere Waterloo Tractor Works for more than 34 years, retiring in 2008. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in Germany.

Survived by a son, Jason (Shanelle) of Monticello, Ill.; two grandchildren, Taylor and Adam Herman; his father of Evansdale; four brothers, Allen (Gina) Schroeder of Waverly, Gary (Susan) Schroeder of Grundy Center, David Herman of Pocahontas and Dennis Herman of Waterloo; and many nieces and nephews, including Riley Herman.

Preceded in death by his mother; a nephew, Cody Michael Risse; and special friends, Bernard and Adelle Petersen.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Nazareth Lutheran Church, Cedar Falls, with burial and full military honors in Garden of Memories Cemetery, Waterloo. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel, Waterloo, and for an hour before services Wednesday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the family.

Tom was a wonderful grandfather, and he treasured time spent with his grandchildren. He was a great story teller and liked to make people laugh. Tom enjoyed riding his motorcycle, especially on trips taken with his son, Jason. He was an avid outdoorsman and was fond of hunting and fishing
