Beverly A. Conkling, 69, of Waterloo, Iowa, died Monday evening, September 18, 2006, at the home of her daughter in Waverly from complications of lung cancer.

She was born on October 20, 1936 near LaPorte City, Iowa, the daughter of Wayne & Irene (Minkel) Kelley. Following her formal education she assisted her family on their farm, especially enjoying caring for the horses.

In 1953 she was united in marriage to Homer Charles Conkling and the couple made their home on a farm south of Mount Auburn, Iowa. They later moved to Burlington, Iowa, and in 1962 Homer died. Shortly after Homer’s death Beverly and her children moved to Waterloo to be closer to Beverly’s parents. Over the next years Beverly raised her family and also worked for Wilbert Vault Company, in a French Fry Manufacturing Plant, and as a housekeeper for several area hotels- the Ramada Inn, Swing Inn, and the Travel Lodge until retiring.

Beverly was a very generous person with both her time and talents and loved helping others. She loved animals and even collected ceramic animals, some of which she made herself in ceramic classes. She also collected porcelain dolls and visited many rummage sales. Her greatest enjoyment, though, came from the times spent with her family, especially the grand and great grandkids.

She is survived by her one daughter, Sue Bentley of Waverly; her three sons, Charles (Cheryl) Conkling of Waterloo, Frank Conkling of Waterloo, Howard Conkling of Waterloo; 13 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; four brothers, Jim Kelley of Waterloo, Jack Kelley of Waterloo, Chuck (Becky) Kelley of Waterloo, Duane Kelley of Waterloo; three sisters, Barb (Ernie) Obadal of Swisher, Iowa, Deb Rooney of Evansdale, Iowa, and Donna (Denny) Cook of Meadville, Pennsylvania.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Homer; three sisters, Mary, Joyce & Pat; and one brother, Richard and one sibling in infancy.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 22, 2006, 1:30 pm at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, Waverly, with burial in the Fremont Cemetery, Tripoli. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Friday from 11:30 am until services.

Memorials may be directed to the family for a later designation.
