Berdine Buhr Watts, 79, of Waterloo, Iowa, died on Wednesday, March 12, 2003, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, of natural causes.

Berdine was born on November 18, 1923, on a farm near Klinger, Iowa, the daughter of August & Martha (Ruehs) Wittenburg. She was baptized on December 9, 1923, attended school, and later confirmed in 1937, all at Immanuel Lutheran Church - Klinger.

On December 22, 1940, she was united in marriage to Carl W. Buhr at Immanuel Lutheran - Klinger. The couple farmed northwest of Readlyn, Iowa, until moving into town in 1966. Carl passed away in 1972 and Berdine remained living in Readlyn. In 1974, she went to work at Carnation in Waverly, Iowa, until her retirement in 1986.

On May 3, 1977, Berdine was married to Harry Watts at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Readlyn. The couple settled in Waterloo, where they have lived since.

Berdine was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Waterloo. She enjoyed bowling, fishing, bird watching, being outdoors, and especially spending time with her grandchildren.

Berdine is survived by her husband, Harry Watts, of Waterloo; one son and his spouse, Gary & Barb Buhr of Readlyn; one daughter, Cynthia Snider of Maysville, Kentucky; five step-daughters and their spouses, Lizz & Dave Bowman of Ames, Iowa, Jenn Watts of Phoenix, Arizona, Pam & Kirby Kretchmer of Cincinnati, Ohio, Kim & Jerry Kapela of Waterloo, and Kay & Ron Shafer of Phoenix, Arizona; five grandchildren and their spouses, Gina & Barney Wiersma of Readlyn, Chad & Dana Buhr of Denver, Colorado, Shane Buhr of Denver, Iowa, Tonya & Chan Phillips of Maysville, Kentucky, and Todd Snider of Orlando, Florida; three step grandchildren; five great grandchildren, Hanna Wiersma, Hallee Wiersma, Morgan Phillips, Arlin Keith Phillips, and Elsa Buhr; one brother and his spouse, Rueben & Lois Wittenburg of Osage, Iowa; and three sisters-in-law, Marie Wittenburg of Fairbank, Iowa, Laura Buhr of Readlyn, and Carlene Werner of Readlyn.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Carl; one sister, Lucinda Happel; one brother, Jim Wittenburg; and a son-in-law, Arlin Snider.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, March 15, 2003, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Waterloo, Iowa. Burial will be in St. Matthew's Cemetery in Readlyn. Visitation will be held from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Friday at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Denver with the family present from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm. There will be visitation for one hour before the service at the church on Saturday. Memorials may be directed to the family.
