CEDAR FALLS - Emily Lavinia Hildebrand, 88, of Cedar Falls, died Saturday, Oct. 22, at Covenant Medical Center, Waterloo, of natural causes.

She was born Sept. 27, 1923, on the family farm in rural Jesup, daughter of Harry A. and Mary Anderson Lies. She married Merlyn Edward Hildebrand Sept. 7, 1948, at St. John's Parish in Waterloo.

Mrs. Hildebrand attended school in Jesup, graduating in 1941.

The couple made their home in the Waterloo-Cedar Falls area most of their married life. Emily was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Waverly. She was a very quick-witted and moral person. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother; family always came first. In her spare time she loved to sew, making many outfits for her daughters, and enjoyed reading, crocheting, baking (chocolate chip cookies) and working in her garden.

Survived by her husband; five daughters, Anita (Paul) Whitson of Cedar Falls, Barbara (Thom) Grenlie of Mount Horeb, Wis., Becky (Jim) Westphal of Ankeny, Cindy (Dan) Rusch of Waterloo and Lori Noack of Omaha, Neb.; 12 grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a brother, Ray (Betty) Lies of Cedaredge, Colo.; and a sister, Mary Penry of Evansdale.

Preceded in death by her parents; two sisters; and four brothers.

Services: 1 p.m. Tuesday at St. Mary Catholic Church, with burial in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, both in Waverly. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, Waverly, with a 7 p.m. public Scripture.
