Don Steffen of Lenoir City, Tenn., went to be with the Lord Saturday, Oct. 22, 2011 at his home after a courageous battle with ALS.

He was born Dec. 15, 1945, to his parents Arnold W. Steffen and Bertha R Nachtman of Earlville, Iowa. He retired as a John Deere Director of Marketing and Sales in 2000 with over 30 years of distinguished service. He was responsible for various John Deere initiatives most notably in Raleigh, N.C. and Loudon, Tenn.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Roy A. Steffen of Springfield, Mo., his sister Lorraine B. Larsen of Ham Lake, Minn.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 46 years, Diann R. Steffen (Clark) and they were married in Waterloo, Iowa on May 14, 1966. His Son Brian J. Steffen of Tampa, Fla., and daughter Angela D. Steffen of Las Vegas, Nev., brother Richard L. Steffen, Clinton, Iowa, sister Irene Bickert of Jesup, Iowa, sister Doris Muller of Sheffield, Iowa, sister Linda Bazyn of Springfield, Mo., also survive Don. He has 19 surviving nieces and nephews.

He is loved and remembered nationwide by the John Deere family and the Avalon Golf community.

Don's legacy will be noted for many years to come by establishing the East Tn ALS branch in support ALS research and support through an annual ALS Golf Classic and ALS walks and the first East Tn ALS support group. Visitation will be on Saturday, Oct. 29, 2011 from 1 to 2:45 p.m. with services at 3 p.m. at Click Funeral Home Farragut Chapel, 11915 Kingston Pike, Knoxville, TN.

The family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the ALS Association Tennessee Chapter at steffenalsgolf.org or directly to the ALS Association Tennessee Chapter, P.O.Box 40244, Nashville, TN.
