WATERLOO - Charles F. "Charlie" Stokes, 74, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Waterloo, died Saturday, Oct. 8, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids of natural causes.

He was born Jan. 10, 1937, in Canton, Miss., son of Willie and Bessie Mae Nicholson Stokes.

Mr. Stokes was a waiter in various restaurants and a security guard, both in Chicago. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and the USO, having served during the Korean conflict.

Survived by a son, Anthony; three daughters, Marie Levier of Lancaster, Texas, Revina Jenkins of Oklahoma and Jamie Chatman of Lake Charles, La.; a brother, Henry R. Cosby Jr. of Phoenix; three sisters, Oneida Cosby and Cheryl Hubbard, both of Waterloo, and Lela Mae Ayers of Jacksonville, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by a brother, Robert; and three sisters, Rosemary Cosby, Bertha "B.J." Adams and Betty Jo Cosby.

Family directed memorial Services: 11 a.m. Saturday at Cathedral of Faith Baptist Church, 3040 Hammond Ave. The body will not be present. He was cremated. Military rites will be conducted by Becker-Chapman American Legion Post 138 and VFW Post 1623. Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher, Cedar Falls, is in charge of arrangements.
