WATERLOO - Edward Louis "Eddie" Niedert, 63, of Waterloo, died Tuesday, Oct. 11, at home from complications of cancer.

He was born Aug. 13, 1948, in Waterloo, son of Fredrick and Leona McBride Niedert. He married Patricia Love in 1966, and they later divorced. He married Sandy Vessels in 1980 in Kentucky. She preceded him in death. He married Patricia Bergeron on Aug. 7, 1992, at First Lutheran Church in Waterloo.

Mr. Niedert retired from the U.S. Army as a master sergeant in 1988. Later, he was a bus driver for 17 years with Metropolitan Transit Authority, retiring in 2009. He attended Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, was a past Master and member of Martin Lodge 624, and member of El Kahir Shrine consistory, Evansdale AMVETS and Waterloo Eagles Club.

Survived by his wife; four daughters, Crystal (David) Edwards of Elizabethtown, Ky., Jennifer Bergeron of Waterloo, Shanel (Tim) Schares of Dunkerton and Sara (Trey) Cornwell of Waterloo; three sons, John Vessels of Elizabethtown, Edward (Kim) II of Quasqueton and Michael (Tammi) Bergeron of Kingston, Okla.; 22 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Diana of Waterloo; and three brothers, Lonnie (Pam) of Waterloo, Ted of New Hartford and Larry (Sydney) McBride of Waterloo.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, with burial in Waterloo Cemetery with military honors. Public visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Locke Funeral Home, with Masonic rites at 7 p.m.

Memorials may be directed to the family.
