WATERLOO - Verna C. Parker, 75, of La Porte City, formerly of Waterloo, died Saturday, Oct. 1, at La Porte City Nursing & Rehab Center after a long illness.

She was born Dec. 6, 1935, in Waterloo, daughter of John and Daisy Avery Smith. She married Lyle Parker on Oct. 26, 1952, in Dunkerton. He preceded her in death Jan. 5, 2001.

Mrs. Parker worked at Covenant Medical Center as a messenger, starting Nov. 1, 1964, and retired in 2002 after 38 years. She remained living at her home in Waterloo until 2010, when she moved to La Porte City Nursing and Rehab Center.

Survived by three sons, Ricky (Darlene), Ronnie and Randy, all of Waterloo; 12 grandchildren;10 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Joe (Juanita) Smith of Denver.

Preceded in death by two daughters, Jane Johnson and Peggy Coen; a granddaughter; six brothers, Bill, Richard, Ronny, Johnny, Don and Merle Smith; and five sisters, Ginny Niedert, Sandy McCrady, Alta Carter, Charlotte Niedert and Garnet Niedert.

Services: 10 a.m. Wednesday at Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Service, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery, both in Waterloo. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday and an hour before services Wednesday at the funeral home.
