WATERLOO - Agnes E. Thies, 84, of Waterloo, died Wednesday, Sept. 28, at Covenant Medical Center of natural causes.

She was born Feb. 6, 1927, in Readlyn, daughter of Herman and Florence Schuknecht Oltrogge. She married Henry E. Thies Aug. 1, 1948, at Zion Lutheran Church in Readlyn.

The couple owned A & H Furniture Store until 1961, and operated a wholesale grapevine wreath business for 15 years, until 1998. She was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church and Lydia Circle. She also worked on the Election Board for 37 years.

Survived by her husband; a son, Mike (Tina) of Waterloo; three grandchildren, Bryan Sawyer, Lindsey Roberts and Ashley Sawyer; two great-grandchildren, Joy Sawyer and Olivia Roberts-Bertch; and two brothers, Paul (Joyce) Oltrogge of Readlyn and Leo Oltrogge of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by four brothers, Edgar, Glen, Henry and Ralph Oltrogge; and a sister, Edna Poock.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Waterloo, with burial in Elmwood Cemetery. Public visitation from 1 to 3 p.m. today at Locke Funeral Home.
