WATERLOO - Marvin E. "Bud" Groen, 86, of Waterloo, died Tuesday, Sept. 27, at Cedar Valley Hospice Home.

He was born Dec. 22, 1924, in Butler County, son of Pete and Dena Eckhoff Groen. He married Darlene R. Klunder June 16, 1949, at Pleasant Valley Church in Plainfield. She died Dec. 29, 2003.

Mr. Groen farmed until 1966, and was a mechanic for Ruan Truck Leasing until retirement. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in Japan.

Survived by two daughters, Diane (Larry) Knavel of Dike and Carol Shoars of Waterloo; a son, Gene (Joan) of Waterloo; a daughter-in-law, Yvonne Buehner of Plainfield; six grandchildren, Aaron (Heather) Knavel, Jeff (Jamie) Knavel, Danielle Knavel, Lindsay Knavel, Mindy Fratzke, and Chad and Tim (Marina) Shoars; 11 great-grandchildren; a brother, Ray of Waverly; and three sisters, Ethel (Bernard) Buskohl of Holland, Dorothy Brocka of Bristow and Beaulah (Jerry) Vetter of Nashua.

Preceded in death by a son in infancy; three brothers, Irvin, Wilbur and Bernard; and three sisters, Ione Gosch, Ruth Ellerman and Marlys Schrage.

Services: burial of ashes will take place at a later date in Willow Lawn Cemetery, Plainfield.

Memorials may be directed to the family.
