CEDAR FALLS - Warren W. McElhinney, 85, of Cedar Falls, died Wednesday, Sept. 28, at New Aldaya Lifescapes in Cedar Falls after a long illness.

He was born March 20, 1926, in Traer, son of Eric and Judith Nelson McElhinney. He married Patricia Peterson in 1954. She died in 1985. He then married Patricia Porter March 22, 1986, at Geneseo United Methodist church in Buckingham.

He graduated from Geneseo High School in 1943. Mr. McElhinney served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1945-46. He received a bachelor's degree in agriculture engineering from Iowa State University in 1950. He was an engineering supervisor for Chrysler in the Chrysler Space Division, worked on the first space ship Booster Rocket, and was senior engineer in the Chrysler Missile Division.

Survived by his wife; a son, Mark "Skye McCloud" of Oregon; two stepsons, John Stein and James Stein, both of Raytown, Mo.; a daughter, Nancy Gulsvig of Waterloo; a stepdaughter, Brenda (John) Rees of Cedar Falls; three grandchildren, Charles (Emily) Tumath, Chad (Sara) Tumath and Lynsey Gulsvig; two stepgrandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a brother, Ralph (Helen) of Sterling Heights, Mich.; and a sister, Judith (Joe) Peluso of Land O' Lakes, Fla.

Preceded in death by a brother, Donald; and a sister, Doris Kimmelshue.

Memorial service: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Geneseo United Methodist Church, with burial in Geneseo Cemetery, rural Buckingham. Public visitation will be held for an hour before services Saturday at the church. Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, Waterloo, is assisting the family.

Memorials may be directed to Miles for Hope, for brain tumor research.

Warren was active in golf, cross-country skiing, biking, bridge, tennis, walking and writing poetry.
