RAYMOND - Franklin Leo "Pete" Schaefer, 75, of Raymond, died Monday, Sept. 19, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, Minn., after a long illness.

He was born April 23, 1936, in Washburn, son of Frank Peter Schaefer and Elizabeth Ann Hemmer Schaefer. He married Shirley Ann Solem on Feb. 15, 1958, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Cedar Falls.

He graduated from Orange High School in Waterloo in 1954. Mr. Schaefer was employed at John Deere in Waterloo for 38 years, farmed and was a breeder of registered Black Angus cattle. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Raymond.

Survived by his wife; a son, Craig (Mary Kay) of Waterloo; three daughters, Anne (Scott) Sergeant of Waterloo, Connie (Scott) Smith of Jesup and Carolyn (Mike) Lahey of Sherrill; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by an infant son, Mark; two brothers, Henry and Roger; and two sisters, Mildred O'Connor and Donalene Butler.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with burial in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, both in Gilbertville. Public visitation from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at White Funeral Home, Jesup, with a 3 p.m. rosary, a 6 p.m. vigil and an 8 p.m. Knight of Columbus rosary. Visitation will continue for an hour before services Saturday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to St. Joseph Catholic Church, Raymond, Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Gilbertville, and Bosco System in Gilbertville.
