Earl L. Hillman, age 93, of Waterloo, died Friday, October 31, 2008 at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

He was born August 13, 1915 in Arlington, Iowa, the son of LaVern and Edna Haner Bolton Hillman. He graduated from Shell Rock (IA) High School. Earl was united in marriage with Leona Hartlove on March 26, 1947 in Baltimore, MD. She preceded him in death in January 1994. He was united in marriage with Mary Jean Marsh on August 13, 1994 in Jesup, IA.

Earl worked as an outside repairman for C & P Telephone Co. in Baltimore, MD for 38 years, retiring on June 1, 1983. Earl was a World War II Navy Veteran, and was a survivor of the attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii on December 7, 1941.

He was a member of Pump-Scheer American Legion Post 342 in Jesup.

Survivors include his wife, Mary of Waterloo; a daughter, Betty Lee Hillman of Mountain Ranch, CA; a stepdaughter, Beverly (Charlie) Schneeman of LaPorte City, IA; 3 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy Rathe of LaPorte City and Barbara (Bob) Sammon of Anderson, MO; two brothers, Darrell (Carol) Bolton of Waverly, IA and Dick Bolton of East Dubuque, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his stepfather, John Bolton; his wife, Leona; two brothers, Donald and Ronald and two sisters, Katherine Nelson and June Mehmen.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, November 4, 2008 at the Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel in Waterloo with burial in the Garden of Memories Cemetery. Full Military Honors will be accorded by Pump-Scheer American Legion post #342 of Jesup. Friends may call from 4:00-7:00 P.M. Monday and after 10:00 A.M. Tuesday at the Funeral Home.

Memorials may be directed to the American Heart Association or the Cedar Valley Food Bank.
