WATERLOO - Russell H. Peterson, 88, of Waterloo, died Monday, Sept. 19, at Cedar Falls Health Care Center.
He was born Nov. 2, 1922, in Waterloo, son of Carl F. and Amanda Fenn Peterson. He married Amy Saucer at the Little Brown Church, Nashua. She preceded him in death. He married Mildred "Millie" Schumacher in 1984 at St. John's Church, Waterloo.
Mr. Peterson served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a union plumber at Koch's, retiring in 1983.
Survived by his wife; five sons, Raymond (Shelly) of Lansing, Steven (Margaret) of Texas, Richard "Dick" of Waterloo, David (Lori) of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Dennis (Gretchen) of Waterloo; five daughters, Becky (Michael) Chambers of Jacksonville, Fla., Patricia (Rex) Eyestone of Waterloo, Carmel (Tim) Spencer of Pella, Annette (Jim) Rechenberger of Waterloo and Kim (Alan) Spencer of Clarion; three stepdaughters, Margaret (Max) Klein, Patricia (David) Minard and Mary (Matthew) Jones, all of Waterloo; two stepsons-in-law, Dan Sink and Jack Bott, both of Waterloo; 24 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; 26 stepgrandchildren; and 45 stepgreat-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by a daughter, Constance; a brother, Carlton; a sister, Miriam Feldpouch; two stepdaughters, Linda Sink and Carol Bott; and a stepgrandson, Scott Thompson.
Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery, where full military rites will be conducted by the Waterloo AMVETS Post 19 and Evansdale AMVETS Post 31. Public visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, with a 7 p.m. vigil. Visitation will continue for an hour before services Thursday at the church.
