CEDAR FALLS -Evelyn M. Kuhlmann, 85, of Cedar Falls, died Sunday, Sept. 18, at NewAldaya Lifescapes of Alzheimer's disease.

She was born March 23, 1926, in Swea City, daughter of Lemuel James Read Sr. and Hazel Goodwin Read. She married Jay Kuhlmann June 29, 1946, in Lyle, Minn. He died Nov. 25, 2007.

She worked in the office of Russell Nielsen, O.D. for many years, and for David Neill, O.D., retiring in 1990. She was a long-time member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls.

Survived by a son, Denis (Julia) of Waterloo; a daughter, Janet (Karl) Suckow of Cedar Falls; a grandson, Jason Storey (Nancy); a great-granddaughter, Isabel; and a brother, Lemuel "Bud" Read Jr. of Austin, Minn.

Preceded in death by two brothers, Henry and Kenneth Read.

Public visitation: 12:30 to 2 p.m. Friday at NewAldaya Lifescapes chapel, with burial in Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens.

The family would like to thank everyone who lovingly cared for Evelyn during the progression of her disease.
