CEDAR FALLS - Virgil E. Mauer, 81, of Cedar Falls, died Thursday, Sept. 15, at Covenant Medical Center, Waterloo.

He was born July 18, 1930, in Wall Lake, son of George E. and Rosetta P. Wunschel Mauer. He married Doris Vander Hamm on Dec. 30, 1956, in Ireton.

Mr. Mauer served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean conflict. He received a bachelor's degree in business from Morningside College in 1957. He was an auditor with the Internal Revenue Service in the Waterloo office and was a member of College Hill Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls.

Survived by his wife; two sons, Vincent (Kimberly) of Cincinnati and Steven (Julie) of Overland Park, Kan.; and five grandchildren.

Preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn Schmitz.

Services: 2 p.m. Sunday at College Hill Lutheran Church, Cedar Falls, with burial at noon Monday in Wall Lake Cemetery, Wall Lake. Public visitation from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday at Richardson Funeral Home, Cedar Falls, and also for an hour before services Sunday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the church or Boy Scouts of America Winnebago Council.
