Betty Jean Leavell, 74, of Waterloo, died Wednesday, September 17, 2008, at her home in Waterloo. She was born July 15, 1934 in Decorah, Iowa, the daughter of David and Anna (Tinjum) Mitchell.

Betty married Carl E. Leavell on January 13, 1954 in Iowa City, Iowa. She was employed in the office at Rath Packing Company in Waterloo, and was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, Carl, of Waterloo; a son, Randall (Diane) Leavell, of Motley, Minnesota; a daughter, Tamra (Michael) McClintock, of Waterloo; six grandchildren, Matthew, Tyler & Carly Leavell, Anthony, Aaron & Breanna McClintock; two great grandchildren, Johnathan & Elizabeth McClintock, and a sister, Marion “Rosie” Thompson, of Waterloo.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Charles Mitchell, and a half brother, Benjamin Clough.

Funeral services will be 10:30 am Monday, September 22, 2008, at Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery Chapel, with burial following the service. Visitation will be 2—4:00 pm Sunday, September 21, at Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery Chapel.

Memorials may be directed to Visiting Nurses, Cedar Valley Hospice, First United Methodist Church-Waterloo, or The Cancer Treatment Center-Waterloo. Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
