Ralph R. Parks, 83, formerly of La Porte City, died Tuesday, November 18, 2008 at the Iowa Veteran’s Home in Marshalltown. He was born October 21, 1925 in La Porte City; the son of Clayton Jack and Hazel Walker Parks. He married Evelyn Ayers on March 6, 1947, they were later divorced.

He worked as a mechanic for Sears Auto Center retiring after 17 years. He served in the U.S. Navy as a machinist mate on the USS Holt Destroyer in the South Pacific during WWII. He served on the Black Hawk County Conservation Board from 1974-1984. He was a member of the La Porte City American Legion San Diego Post #207 and the USS Holt DE 706 Shipmates Association.

Survived by two sons, Ron (Flo) Parks of Evanston, WY, Greg (Peggy) Parks of La Porte City; one daughter Linda (David) Harris of Marshalltown; eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Clayton Grover Parks and one Great-Grandson, Skylar Parks.

Services will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, November 21, 2008 at La Porte City Funeral Service with burial in the West View Cemetery, both in La Porte City. Military Rites will be conducted by the La Porte City American Legion San Diego Post #207. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Thursday and one hour before the service at the funeral home.

Memorials may be directed to the Resident Library at the Iowa Veteran’s Home in Marshalltown.
