CEDAR FALLS - Billie Elberta Hoekstra, 94, of Cedar Falls, died Tuesday, Aug. 23, at Elizabeth E. Martin Health Center in Cedar Falls.

She was born Dec. 5, 1916, on her family's farm near Pleasantville. She married Jake Hoekstra Aug. 31, 1940, in Knoxville. He preceded her in death.

She graduated from Knoxville High School and received a degree in education from Central College in Pella. Mrs. Hoekstra taught in Crownwell, Ocheyden, Lake Center, Gillet Grove, Graettinger, Terril and Emmetsburg Catholic School. She taught English, music, French, speech and drama and directed numerous school plays. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Ruthven and was the choir director from 1946-58.

Survived by a son, Dr. Greg (Anne) of Waterloo; a daughter, Gwen of Fall Creek, Wis.; three grandsons; a granddaughter; and a sister, Dixie Kanago of Spencer.

Preceded in death by three sisters, Maureen Glenn, Jennie Harsin and Josephine Black; and an infant brother, LeRoy.

Services: 1 p.m. Saturday at Zion Lutheran Church, with burial in Crown Hill Cemetery, both in Ruthven. Martin-Mattice Funeral Home, Emmetsburg, is in charge of arrangements.
