EVANSDALE — Lois J. McCraney, 81, of Evansdale, died Thursday, Aug. 18, at Martin Health Care Center at the Western Home, Cedar Falls.

She was born March 29, 1930, in Fredericksburg, daughter of Christy and Renetta Sternat Strempke. She married James C. McCraney July 27, 1947, in Waterloo. He preceded her in death Aug. 30, 1996.

Mrs. McCraney was a homemaker and was a foster parent for many years.

Survived by two sons, Dennis (Brenda) of Crossville, Tenn., and Tom (Terri) of Wayne, Neb.; two daughters, Linda McCraney-Skjervem of Sierra Vista, Ariz., and Sue (Alvin) Allison of Nashua; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Lloyd Strempke of Kentucky and Donald Strempke of California.

Preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and a sister, Velma Strempke.

Services: 11 a.m. Thursday at Trinity American Lutheran Church, with burial in Garden of

Memories Cemetery, both in Waterloo. Public visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel, Waterloo, and for an hour before services Thursday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the family.

Lois was an active member of Trinity American Lutheran Church in Waterloo, the church circle and Outreach committee. Lois taught Sunday School for many years and worked visiting shut-ins and bringing them communion. She was a volunteer girl scout leader, and a member of the Evansdale Garden Club, where she was a past president. Lois also served as Vice President of the Ladies Aid at First Lutheran Church. She volunteered at the blood bank and served as an election judge in the community and served as a cookie baker, chauffeur and counselor to many. Mostly she was a loving mother, grandmother and “Grandma Great.”
