WATERLOO - LaVonne E. Engstrom, 87, of Waterloo, died Monday, Aug. 15, at Ravenwood Nursing and Rehab Center in Waterloo.

She was born Oct. 27, 1923, in Cedar Falls, daughter of Walter O. and Clara Martha Hyde Ehrig and her stepmother Melinda Knoop. She married Eugene Warren Engstrom on Dec. 17, 1944, in Waterloo. He died Dec. 4, 2006.

She graduated from Waterloo West High School and attended Iowa State Teachers College. She was a homemaker and a member of Grace Baptist Church.

Survived by two daughters, Jill E. Smith of Waterloo and Marie J. (Fred) Nolting of Corinth, Texas; three sons, Arlo E., Craig W. (Patrice) and Timothy J. (Kristi), all of Waterloo; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.

Preceded in death by a sister, Jean Manthey; and a stepsister, Dorothy Beasley.

Services: 11 a.m. Friday at Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel, Waterloo, with burial in Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, and for an hour before services Friday at the funeral home.
