HUDSON - James Joseph Meno, 77, of Hudson, died Saturday, Aug. 6, at the Elizabeth E. Martin Health Center, Cedar Falls, following a long illness with cancer.

He was born July 20, 1934, in Carlinville, Ill., son of John and Margaret Cena Meno. He married Marion Henderson on March 20, 1965, in Hickory, Pa.

Mr. Meno graduated from Carlinville High School in 1952, then attended Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. He received a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in animal science and had worked toward a doctorate. While a student at SIU, he managed the university farms. After moving to Hudson in 1972, he served as the Area Extension Livestock Specialist for Iowa State University. He was a member of Alpha Zeta, an agriculture fraternity, and St. Timothy's Lutheran Church, Hudson.

Survived by his wife; two daughters, Margaret "Peg" Stanczak of Hudson and Barbara (John) Henry of Canby, Ore.; a son, Jim (Sue) of Anthem, Ariz.; six grandchildren, Adam Stanczak of Great Falls, Mont., Jennifer Stanczak of Wausau, Wis., Heather Meno of Kansas City, Mo., and Vincent, Nolan and Isabella Meno, all of Anthem; three great-grandchildren; and a brother, the Rev. John P. Meno of North Carolina.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Timothy's Lutheran Church, Hudson, with burial in Hudson Cemetery. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Service, Waterloo.

Memorials may be directed to St. Timothy's Lutheran Church, the Cedar Valley Hospice or the Mayo Clinic for cancer research.

Jim is remembered as a small-town guy who was a perfectionist who set high standards for all he knew. He enjoyed a simple life that centered around his family and his work.
