WATERLOO - Bernice H. Stewart, 91, of Waterloo, formerly of Charles City, died Saturday, Aug. 6, at Covenant Medical Center of natural causes.

She was born June 15, 1920, in rural Bristow, daughter of Henry and Jennie Busma Hinders. She married Donald G. Stewart Oct. 14, 1940, at the Pastors House in Rudd. He died April 7, 1996.

She graduated from Greene High School. Mrs. Stewart was a rural school teacher in Butler and Chickasaw Counties for 10 years and pioneered a pre-school in her home in Waterloo for 17 years, retiring in 1978. She attended First United Methodist Church for 30 years and later Kimball Avenue United Methodist Church where she was an active member. She was involved in Senior Citizen Bible Study Groups since 1970 and led a Girl Scout troop for many years.

Survived by two daughters, Deon Senchina (Walter) of Cedar Falls and Jane Sieleman of Davenport; a son-in-law, Greg Sieleman of St. Cloud, Minn.; four grandchildren, David Senchina, Jason Senchina, Stewart Sieleman and Jennifer Sieleman; and a sister, Henrietta Shuler of Charles City.

Preceded in death by two sisters, Genevieve Tiemens and Ann Groniga; and three brothers, Forrest, John and Clarence Hinders.

Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday at Kimball Avenue United Methodist Church, with burial in Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens, Cedar Falls. Public visitation will he held for an hour before services Tuesday at the church.
