WATERLOO - Eldon Eugene Angelow, 83, of Waterloo, died Friday, July 22, at Covenant Medical Center.

He was born June 20, 1928, on a farm near Rowley, son of Howard and Florence Kress Angelow. He married Elaine Bruns Feb. 2, 1952, in Waterloo. She died May 7, 2002.

He attended a country school house in the Rowley area and entered the U.S. Navy in 1946. He served aboard the USS Chandler until 1948, when he was discharged. Mr. Angelow was a gas service technician for Iowa Public Service, retiring in 1990.

Survived by a son, David of Austin, Texas; two daughters, Karen of Waterloo and Linda (Mark) Anderson of Chicago; four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Preceded in death by a brother, Richard; and a sister, Shirlene Melick.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Public visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. at Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories. Military honors by the U.S. Navy Funeral Honors and the Evansdale AMVETS.

Memorials may be directed to Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation.

He loved being with family and friends, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchild. He enjoyed playing cards, gardening, annual fishing trips to Woman Lake in Minnesota, monthly breakfasts with other IPS retirees or having coffee with other men at McDonald's and conversing.
