[Waterloo Courier, Sunday, July 24, 2011]

Dr. Randall Eugene Poyner, 75, of Palm Coast, Fla., went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, April 11, 2011. The eldest of four sons, Randy was born in Waterloo, Iowa, on March 11, 1936, to Claude and LaVera (Hamm) Poyner.

He became the loving husband of Elizabeth (Betty) Jean VanEaton on June 7, 1956, and their faithful union was blessed with three children, daughter Susan (Mike) Blackwell (N Fort Myers, Fla.), son Tim (Sue) Poyner (Wiona Lake, Ind.), and son Mark (Christy) Poyner (Charleston, S.C.).

Randy earned his MDiv from Grace Theological Seminary in Wiona Lake, Ind., along with his DMin in Marriage and Family Counseling from Eastern Baptist Seminary. His passion for the Lord led him to pastor churches in Goshen, Ind.; Johnston, Pa.; Lansing, Mich.; Fort Myers, Fla.; and Hagerstown, Md. Randy pursued his counseling degree and began a counseling practice while living in Little Rock, Ark. During the past 21 years, Randy had resided in Palm Coast, Fla., where he served as an Elders Mentor at Parkview Baptist Church, Director of Pastoral Care Services at Flagler Hospital's Psychiatric Center, and maintained a private counseling practice.

While Randy loved God's gift of nature (animals, birds, fishing, hunting), his greatest desire was for others to know Christ as their personal Lord and Savior. He was blessed with a beautiful tenor voice, fulfilled a life-long dream of recording an album, and graciously shared that gift of music with others. He was strong in spirit, surviving multiple cancers for 25 years. That amazing spirit and warmth will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

Randy is survived by his three children and multiple grandchildren; Brother Wes (Nancy) Poyner; Brother Jim (Charlotte) Poyner; sister-in-law Coleen Poyner; many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, and brother Craig Poyner.

A memorial service took place at Parkview Baptist Church in Palm Coast, Fla., on Saturday, May 7, 2011. The graveside service with inurnment will take place at Poyner Township Cemetery in Waterloo, Iowa on Saturday, July 30 at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the following in Randy's name: Hospice of Volusia/Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129 or the Pastoral Care Ministry of Parkview Baptist Church, 5435 Belle Terre Pkwy, Palm Coast, FL, 32137.

Inurnment arrangements by White Funeral Home, 400 First St W, Independence, IA, 50644.
