WATERLOO - David A. Susong Sr., 83, of Ridgeway Place, died Friday, July 15, at Cedar Valley Dialysis Center.

He was born March 13, 1928, in Greenville, Tenn., son of Arch and Selma Combs Susong. He married Lucille J. Fratzke on Oct. 12, 1950, at Westover Air Force Base, Mass. She died Jan. 8, 2003.

Mr. Susong was a police officer with Waterloo Police Department from 1952 to 1985 and worked at National Bank of Waterloo from 1985 to 1995. He served in the U.S. Air Force; was a deacon at Trinity American Lutheran Church; was past master and secretary of Martin Lodge 624 A.F. & A.M.; was a member of Black Hawk Lodge 65; and was past president of El Kahir Shrine Clowns and El Mecca Shrine Club.

Survived by a daughter, Mary (Dave) Ferrell of Waterloo; a son, David A. Jr. (Bette) of Waterloo; five grandchildren, David R. (Mary Jo) Susong, Kelli (Dom) Punelli, Aram (Katy) Susong and Jordan and Benjamin Stokes; seven great-grandchildren, Austin and Noah Susong, Dominic, Rocco and Roman Punelli, and Sam and Molly Susong; and two sisters, Josephine (Ronnie) Drucker of Atlanta and Kathleen Cutshaw of Greeneville.

Preceded in death by a brother, Clifford.

Services 10:30 a.m. Friday at Trinity American Lutheran Church, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Locke Funeral Home, with public Masonic rites at 7 p.m. by Martin Lodge.

Memorials may be directed to Shriners' Hospitals for Children of Houston or Alzheimer's Association.
