WATERLOO - Richard James Rigdon, 74, of Waterloo, died Friday, July 15, at Covenant Medical Center of natural causes.

He was born July 4, 1937, in Waterloo, son of Neal and Lucille Webster Rigdon. He married Nancy Emken on May 20, 1971, in Cedar Rapids. She died July 11, 2003.

Mr. Rigdon graduated from Waterloo West High School in 1956 and was a U.S. Army veteran. He worked at John Deere Engine Works, retiring in 1997, and was a member of Hammond Avenue Brethren Church and the I-Club.

Survived by two daughters, Sheryl (Robert) Pommrehn and Lisa (James) Winder, both of Waterloo; two sons, Steve (Sue) Moore of Cedar Falls and Tim (Renee) Moore of Des Moines; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Preceded in death by a brother, Jack.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Hammond Avenue Brethren Church, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by U.S. Army Honor Guard. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. today Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Service.

Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice, P.O. Box 2880, Waterloo 50704.

Dick was a caring, generous man who loved to make people laugh. An avid Hawkeye and Yankee fan, Dick enjoyed collecting sports memorabilia. He had been a season ticket holder for Iowa football since 1984 and was looking forward to tailgating during the upcoming season with family and friends. Dick enjoyed his 1966 Mustang convertible, grilling, bowling, dancing and vacationing.
