CEDAR FALLS - W. W. "Smitty" Smith, 98, of Cedar Falls, died Saturday, July 16, at his home.

He was born Jan. 13, 1913, in Manchester, son of Milton and Maude Wilson Smith. He married Esther Eibey June 28, 1936, in Cedar Rapids. She died Feb. 21, 1982. He married Marcella "Sally" Cerwinske July 15, 1983, in Sheboygan, Wis.

Mr. Smith was employed at S & S Firestone, and owned and operated Smitty's Tire & Appliance from 1953 until retirement in 1992. He joined the Cedar Falls Lion's Club in 1945 and received the Distinguished Service award in 1986 and the Warren Coleman Honorary award in 1992. He also was a member of Cape Coral, Fla., Moose Lodge 2199.

Survived by his wife; a son, Dick (Linda) of Cedar Falls; two stepdaughters, Donna Sheldon of Waterloo and Faith Hope (Ray) Sonksen of Waterloo; two grandchildren, Lisa (Jeremy) Schumacher of Steamboat Springs, Colo., and Shelley (Kenneth) Lauritsen of Cedar Falls; four stepgrandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and eight stepgreat-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Terri Smith; and a sister, Velma Severn.

Services: 1:30 p.m. Friday at Nazareth Lutheran Church, with burial in Fairview Cemetery. Public visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, and will continue for an hour before services Friday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the church.
