DUNKERTON - Bess Magee Wellner, 79, of Davenport, formerly of Dunkerton, died Sunday, July 10, at Manor Care Center Utica Ridge of Alzheimer's Disease.

She was born July 20, 1931, in Dunkerton, daughter of Paul Henry and Mary Beatrice Underwood Magee. She married Robert Wellner Dec. 30, 1950, in Dunkerton.

She was a teacher in Davenport in 1952. She graduated from Marycrest College, taught math and was one of the founders of Gifted and Talented Program for Davenport School System, retiring in 1993 after 37 years.

Survived by her husband; two daughters, Jill Sager of St. Louis and Marney (Todd) Tope of Davenport; seven grandchildren; four great-granchildren; two sisters, Belle Boyer of Jesup and Dawn (Larry) Fisher of Davenport; and a brother, Dan of Long Beach, Calif.

Preceded in death by a son, Richard; and a sister, Hope Pyle.

Celebration of life service was July 14 at Runge Mortuary, Davenport.

Memorials in lieu of flowers, may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association.
