WATERLOO - Paula Kaye Hammond, 53, of Evansdale, died Friday, July 8, at Covenant Medical Center of complications of lung cancer.

She was born July 7, 1958, in Grinell, daughter of Harvey and Kathy Schoonover Happel.

She attended Central High School. She took care of her grandkids and was a bartender at Kugs Bar in Evansdale for many years.

Survived by her parents; her fiance, Dwight Coburn of Evansdale; a son, Tim Shumaker of Waterloo; three daughters, Lindie (Josh Lyons) of Waterloo, Leslie of Evansdale and Amanda Tomlinson of Waterloo; three stepsons, Aaron (Lyndi) Coburn, Kyle (Katie) Coburn and Tyler Coburn, all of Evansdale; four grandchildren, Kyler, Mason, Amaya and Graysyn; three stepgrandchildren, Chloe, Ariana and Brooklyn; three brothers, Dennis (Mary) Ricker of Burton, Mich., and Douglas and Kevin Coburn, both of Evansdale; a sister, Pamela (Jeff) Lawless of Waterloo; nieces and nephews; longtime friends, Rea Abrams and Kim Nelson; and many friends.

Preceded in death by an aunt, Tootie Coats.

Services: 4 p.m. Tuesday at Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, with burial at a later date. Public visitation from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial services 4 p.m. Saturday at Kugs Bar and Grill, Evansdale.

Memorials may be directed to the family.

She enjoyed darts, pool league, cooking and reading books. Paula loved spending time with her family, especially her grandkids. Paula will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
